As an American Jew, I feel Israeli policy and propaganda carries as much blame for the broad brush painted on Jews everywhere as anyone else.
Throughout this entire experience, Israel has loudly proclaimed that questioning Israeli policies is antisemitic, even though those policies are driven by political maneuvering and security, not any religious teachings. They have done everything possible to bind the rest of Judaism to this one tiny country.
And this is what's being reaped. As an American Jew, I have no identity caught up in Israel. Abraham was born in what is modern day Iraq, and Judea ceased to exist 1500 years ago. And yet, because Israel demands that all Jews are threatened because Israel is threatened, enough people believe them, and blame Jews who aren't Israeli, who don't support Israel.
I'm tired of being told what I should believe.
