If you need to ask for a raise... you're in a shitty company. And there's a lot of shitty companies.

If they aren't at least giving you a cost-of-living adjustment every year, they're cheapskates and probably have a pretty pathetic corporate culture.

Always remember that you're interviewing them as much as they're interviewing you when you're looking for a job. Ask them about COLA's. Ask them about benefits. And look to see if they feel welcoming and excited to meet you, or if they're condescending to to interview you. The way they treat candidates speaks volumes to the way they treat employees.
